Plan of attack

Alright everyone, we have a plan. I'm gonna keep this short, it's been a long day.

We did the liver biopsy a couple Fridays ago, and it pointed us in the same direction.

Today we met with Dr. Tan at Siteman to discuss clinical trials and treatment. They confirmed my diagnosis: stage IV intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. There were not any current clinical trials for first line treatment, so we will proceed with the standard plan of doing chemo. However, there was a second line trial that I signed up to be screened for. They will test my tumor tissue to see if there is this specific protein in it, and if so, I could sign up for that trial if I wanted to. If not, then it wouldn't apply to me. They also talked about numerous other options we may have for second line treatments.

I've learned that there are "first line" and "second line" treatments in the world of cancer. First line are the things you try first, second line is what you try after that when you need to. So there's that, if you were wondering what all that meant.

So... I start chemo on Thursday. It's about time. This has felt like a very long, slow slog to get to this point of FINALLY doing something about this. Please continue to pray; pray that the chemo works, pray that the side effects aren't too bad.
